individuals if something seems severe

If you suspect more severe mistreatment of a child who is a neighbor, friend or relative, you may be unsure of what to do. If...

  • your child's friend has a lot of bruises that she can't explain
  • your neighbor's young children have no supervision until late into the night, or report never having enough food
  • your niece or nephew has reported that someone touched them inappropriately

...you can make a confidential call to Allegheny County Children, Youth & Families at 412-473-2000 or ChildLine at 1-800-932-0313. (ChildLine services the state of Pennsylvania.) If you live outside of Pennsylvania, please contact your regional child protective service. This number is typically found in the government pages of your local phone book.

If you, or someone you love, would like additional support for severe mistreatment, please contact Family Resources at 412-363-1702.

Tips

Remember, you can help most by staying calm and by being supportive.
